About Our Club

Wett Ones is Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Swimming club and was established in 1991.  We are an inclusive club and welcome all lesbian, gay, transgender, queer, bisexual and heterosexual swimmers and their friends interested in swimming and related activities.  Our goal is to support and encourage swimming in a friendly environment.  While our main focus is on swimming in the pool, our members compete in various state, national and international carnivals, ocean swims and triathlons.

At Wett Ones, we cater for swimmers who have a minimum level of proficiency and who can participate in squad training up to advanced competition level.  At this time we do not provide learn-to-swim coaching, however we can recommend the Sydney Uni Swim School adult classes.  We use several specially reserved lanes, and provide varied swim programs which may include stroke correction through to advanced training for competition.  Our coaches are all accredited, ensuring that training is soundly based.

The club is currently at the top of Division 2 of the Aussie Masters Swimming in NSW.  We have also been members of Team Sydney and the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA).

For more information on our past have a look at our club history.

What is Masters Swimming?

Masters Swimming is an Australian and International organisation of adult swimming clubs.  Members are over 20 years old, and they swim regularly to keep fit and have fun.  Swimming is a very important form of aerobic exercise because the body is supported by water reducing the chances of injury.

NSW Masters Swimming supports members in various ways.  Individuals can have their times recorded at the club or state level in aerobic swims and interclub State, National and International carnivals are also encouraged and supported.  As a member of Masters Swimming NSW Wett Ones hosts its own carnival each year.  The goal of these events is to encourage swimmers and support their endeavours, however competition is only one aspect supported by participation at carnivals.

Wett Ones has summer and winter training. All sessions are held in specially reserved lanes.

Fitness, Social, Competition - We offer it all!

Fitness and Health Come along and try out the training sessions.  Coached sessions offer a range of approaches from developing fitness to improving skills to rigorous training.  We are sure you will benefit from our programs.  Training advice is also available from our coaches to help you when you are swimming by yourself.

Social

Social activities are an important aspect of our club.  Swimmers often meet after training to eat, socialise or hit the pubs and clubs.  We have a weekly after-training get together at the Royal Hotel in Abercrombie Street every Wednesday, brunch every Saturday morning after training at Andrew Boy Charlton pool, post-ocean swims coffee, and other organised social activities depending on what is on in Sydney at the time.

Competition Wett Ones swimmers compete regularly in Masters competitions within NSW and at international events as well as at open water ocean swims held off Sydney's beaches each summer, and at triathlons.  Talk to our Race Secretary for the latest carnivals.  Masters carnivals cater for all ages, abilities, strokes and distances.  Your coach will help you determine appropriate carnivals/open water swims.
